About the tutor

After various careers, including in theatre costume and recruitment, I returned to education in my 30s, obtaining a first class honours degree in English literature from the Open University in 2011. I went on to gain an MA in English literature from King's College London in 2013.

I trained as a teacher whist teaching GCSE English and A-level English at Guildford College.

My literary passions include, but are definitely not limited to, Charles Dickens (about whom I wrote my MA dissertation) and the 19th century novel more widely, the poetry of Frank O'Hara and Philip K Dick. I am an active creative writer and feel that this is a really useful way to learn about literary craft.

My approach to teaching is varied and experimental! I embrace evidence-based practice, and keep abreast of current research through membership of NATE (National Association of Teachers of English).
